  • The lighting is horrible and it’s not even completely finished. And I changed my mind a thousand times about whether to put a desk or a dresser next to the closet. I drew a dresser, but built a desk. May switch it out later. Who knows. But I’m posting this because it’s pretty stinking cool to see your random sketches come to real life. Also, it’s life changing to finally have some kind of doors to hide my junk behind. This tiny living thing is harder than I thought it would be 🤷‍♀️😐 I’ll have plans for the closets coming first of the year!! #moderncloset #tinyliving #garageapartment #closetspace

I’m convinced if I were to take all the sawdust made from making these, that I could compress it all together and have enough to make three more of these things. How does that even happen?!   • Have I shown you my new shop? Pretty sure I haven’t. Mostly because it’s got SO. MUCH. CRAP. Left to do before it’s “done.” But here’s a peek 👀 this is also a peek of me gluing up the picture frame from Hades this weekend. It’s funny now but wasn’t funny then...first, I wrote down the dimensions of the frame Friday afternoon. Woke up Saturday and started building NEVER LOOKING at the measurements I wrote 🤦🏼‍♀️ so once it was all glued up, I realized it was 3” too wide (I wrote them down correctly...but I’m an idiot and didn’t look at what I wrote) 😩 so before the glue dried, I had to bust it apart and trimmed it to the correct size and re glued it back up. Okay, all is good. UNTIL I pull out my full Roman Ogee router bit and tear the whole corner off the frame 🤬 (side note: I have a video of my reaction. It’s funny now. Not funny then). Thankfully I was able to glue it back on and sand enough that you can hardly tell. But what should have taken about an hour took about four 🙄 but it’s a Christmas gift for my dad (shh he doesn’t know yet), so I guess it was worth it. Kind of 🤷‍♀️ did anyone else have a kind of crappy weekend in the shop?   • Last month was huge for my little piece of the internet. I won the Jeffrey Court Fall Reno Challenge (thank you to everyone who voted!), and I finally hit the big blogger traffic milestone (after four years of busting my tail) of 100k pageviews in a month. I can’t even. BUT... For all the excitement, there’s been ten times the disappointment. For almost four years, I hoped and wished and worked towards dreams and goals with this thing. I watched a million other people hit their goals and surpass me one by one. Sometimes I wanted to give up. And sometimes I just got mad and worked harder. I bought books, took classes, talked to “experts” and heard countless people say “if you work hard enough, all of your dreams will come true.” But that’s a lie. Not everyone gets a trophy. That’s a hard truth. You can do everything right and still not win. Thats life. But you know what I’ve learned in the last four years of working extra hard towards a dream that will probably never become a reality? You learn a heck of a lot more failing than succeeding. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I mean it. It’s true. A hard days work makes for a good nights sleep and a clean conscience. I’d rather work hard and be slightly underpaid than not earn my keep and be overpaid. Dirty hands, clean money. Hard work doesn’t guarantee success. But you are guaranteed to not have success without hard work. Being the underdog isn’t so bad. Sometimes people cheer for you...out of pity, but hey, better than nothing. Nobody cares, work harder. It’s okay to cry. But don’t get it on the plywood. It’s okay to give up on a goal. Just be sure you’re ready to give up. Not every goal is worth killing yourself for. And not every goal is obtainable. But if it’s worth it, keep doing it. Do what you love until you don’t love it anymore. Then do something else. Things are not always as they appear. Not everyone progresses at the same rate. Quit looking around. Look down and do your work. So there’s my thoughts of the day. Oh and a picture of me in my new kitchen. Thought I’d throw that in there, too 😂
